Tyne Tour

Tyne Tour 2013 is almost upon us!

Firstly, Thank you to everyone who came on Freshers Trip and made it so much fun, it was an amazing weekend and it would be great to see you all again on our future trips and pool sessions.

So in a happy coincidence,

Weekend 5 is Tyne Tour!

The time of year when Uni Canoe Clubs and other fun loving paddlers from far and wide descend on Hexham for a weekend camping, Ceilidhing, socialising and paddling.

So a bit about logistics we will be meeting at 4pm on Friday 1st┬áNovember at the Sports Centre and returning late on Sunday 3rd. This trip like freshers is suitable for┬áanyone who has been to a pool session, so if you missed out on Freshers trip, donÔÇÖt worry, you can still sign up and come along to this without worrying about never having been on white water before.

The cost will be £43 and this includes the cost of us transporting you and any kit that you will require for the entire weekend as well as the £25 ticket that we have to purchase for you to go to this epic event. Well worth it if in my opinion.

So, how do I sign up?

Sign up will go live at 5:30pm Wednesday afternoon (23/10/2013) and will be here http://www.warwickcanoe.co.uk/site/trips/ on our website. If the trip is still closed when you log in just refresh like a mad man until it opens to make sure you secure your place.

Many (if not all) older members describe this as the best trip of the year and many purchased tickets several months ago as they were that excited about coming once more! Every year sign up fills insanely quickly and with the demand for freshers this year I expect an even more impressive time so please sign up quickly to avoid disappointment and insure your place on what I think is the social paddling event of the year.

Freshers, if you havenÔÇÖt managed to log into the canoe site yet due to it doing strange things please reply to this email now so that I can set you one up way before sign up. I will need what you want as your log in and password and I will do my best to sort an account out for you and failing that supply you with a temporary account just for this trip.

Hello hello,

The pool session of Monday week 4 (the 21st) is going to be a bit of a wet one.

Our very own president, R. Dan, is going to cover a few different rescue techniques including:
-T rescues (the next best thing if you canÔÇÖt roll)
-Deep water rescues
-Rescuing an unconscious paddler

Again, this session is open to everyone and rescue skills are a very good thing to have!

ThereÔÇÖs no need to sign up-just be changed, ready and at the pool side at 9.

See you there,
Gabs

P.s. donÔÇÖt forget about Pop! on Wednesday!!

Coached Pool Session on Monday the 14th October

Ladies and Gents,

I hope youÔÇÖve all enjoyed the taster sessions and are up for coming back for more!

As you may well know, starting from week 3 the Monday pool session (9 p.m to 10 p.m) is going to be a structured/coached session.

Each week we will go through different strokes and other paddling related things-we will let you know in advance what is happening each week.

Since many of you will be joining us on Freshers trip on the weekend of week 3 (the 18th-20th October) for some white water paddling, the first structured pool session (Monday the 14th) will be going through most of the basic strokes and essentially get you ready for Freshers trip.

This is an idea of what will be happening:
-Forwards paddling
-Stopping
-Turning
-Draw strokes (for avoiding rocks!)
-Low brace turns (one of the most important strokes for white water)
-How to swim and rescue techniques for moving water
-Kit demonstration (what you will be wearing on trips)

ThereÔÇÖs no need to sign up-just be changed, ready and by the pool side at 9!

Everybody is welcome (though you do need to have paid your membership to Warwick Sport) - even if youÔÇÖve paddled before itÔÇÖs good to learn the proper techniques, or if you donÔÇÖt plan on coming on Freshers trip!

Hope to see you all there.

Your loving coaching sec,
Gabs

Ladies and Gentlemen, boys and girls, and Stu

The first weekend away with Warwick Canoe is almost here.

It is a trip to North Wales for a whole weekend to sample some easy whitewater. All are welcome, from complete beginners to whitewater pros.

The trip is on the weekend of week 3, leaving late afternoon Friday 18th October and returning Sunday 20th in the evening. WeÔÇÖre staying in a Scout hut both nights and will venture out to nearby rivers during the day. We'll provide all the paddling kit you need, but if you have your own feel free to bring it.
We also recommend you bring a waterproof jacket, sleeping bag, roll mat, old trainers that you can wear while kayaking and all the warm clothes you can find! If you need any help with bringing these things let us know ASAP and weÔÇÖll try and sort you out.

The price will be £40 for transport, accommodation and BOOZE, we will also organise a group meal on the Saturday night which will cost something in the region of £2-3, but will be optional.

So how do you go about signing up for this wonderful trip?
Firstly - you must be a member of the club and have attended a pool session (the pool session on Monday week 3 will be aimed at preparing you for the weekend, so make sure you come along!)
Secondly - Make an account on the website (if you have not already done so). I'd suggest doing this now rather than tomorrow, let us know if you have any problems. HereÔÇÖs a link to set up your account: http://www.warwickcanoe.co.uk/site/register/
Finally - Be on this web page at 5pm tomorrow. A trip called "Freshers Trip" will appear under future trips and be available to sign up for. Simply fill in your details and click sign up. Easy peasy lemon squeezy.

Signups for this trip will close on Tuesday at midday and confirmation emails will go out early on Wednesday to let you know if youÔÇÖve got a place. (Unfortunately we are limited to the number of people we can take, so itÔÇÖs first come first serve)

Lots of small Welsh love
