Joining the clubs

Posted 14y 11mth ago by Some Old Git

The term is coming to a close and Warwick Sport will start to get tough on people joining clubs that they attend. So please join the Canoe and/or Canoe Polo clubs depending on which sessions you go to. If you know anyone who hasn't joined the club (they won't get this e-mail) please tell them to join. Or, if you are reading this News post but haven't received the e-mail it probably haven't joined either club (or your e-mail is wrong on your Warwick Sport account).

Joining couldn't be easier you can do it on-line here http://warwicksport.warwick.ac.uk/clubs/canoe/  and here http://warwicksport.warwick.ac.uk/clubs/canoepolo/. Or just ask at the Sports Centre reception.

Polo tournament this Sunday

Posted 14y 11mth ago by Some Old Git

If you didn't already know the legendary Warwick Winter Tournament is this Sunday from 1000 - 1800 at the pool. If you're not playing but are interested in being in the teams later in the year it'll be great for you to come along and get a taste of what the game is about. Plus we'd love the support.

The tournament is also Warwick Sport's "One to Watch" for week 8 which, this year, means it'll be filmed by Warwick TV. They've requested that we have a few people to help them out as they are short of people so, if you fancy trying you steady hands at camera work it's a great opportunity to give it a go.

If you're playing in the tournament or fancy filming please turn up at 0900 and get changed and ready asap. That way we'll have lots of people on hand to help set up kit, goals, tables, pa etc. and to help out other Unis with directions. If you're not playing it'd be great to see you at any point throughout the day.

Ok you ugly lot, this is the one you've all been waiting for, and it's going to be absolute carnage!

Well be meeting in The Dirty Duck at 1900hrs on friday of this week where the first of nine holes will be played. We'll be finishing up in Kelseys. It's going to be wicked!

The theme for the evening is emergency services so:

First years dress as paramedics/doctors

Second years dress as the Fire brigade

Third and Forth years dress as policemen/women

Anyone on a post graduate course or who has graduated, must dress as secret service

See you in the Duck on friday!

Much love,

Pebble

Tournament next Tuesday

Yo yo yo!

We'll be running another tournament next Tuesday, for everyone again, everyone is welcome. This time people will be put into the teams for the upcoming Warwick Tournament, and a team for anyone who's left. Please don't be discouraged if you haven't made it in to one of the teams for the tournament. Next Tuesday will be one of the many occasions to prove whichever bunch of knob ends chose the teams that they were wrong!

Tuesdays will always be open to everyone.

Teams will be given handicaps to even up the games. E.g. Warwick A vs Warwick C might start 0-9. Warwick A need to score at least 10 goals to win. Warwick C just have to stop them scoring 9 or more goals to make the A's lose.

There is a signup on the website, on the left hand links under 'Canoe/Trips'. Being a mong I, put four signups up, only the top one should work, so sign up to that one if you want to play.

Cheers,

G

Let's get creative...POLO Hoodies.

Alright guys! This year we have a wicked offer for you. Design the 09/10 Polo Club hoody, and if your design is the chosen one, you will receive your hoody for free! This is a very good offer seeing as they cost 20-30 of your precious pounds. So its well worth your time and money to get involved. Right, This year the idea is the have a zippy hoody, like the ones with a zip down the middle, like cardigan but a hoody instead...with a zip and hood, you catch my drift. The design must be a printable in one colour (black/white) onto light/dark coloured hoodies. This means it must be a SIMPLE LINE OR BLOCK design. If you're not sure what I'm talking about just have a look round campus at other designs for other clubs. We would like an improvement on the current design (the paddle with the ball in the middle and warwick canoe typset round it in a circle). Something exciting that reflects the pace and energy of the game (when not played by punters) would be awesome. Two of the most obvious ideas include perhaps a guy winding up to take an awesome shot, or maybe someone on the sprint taking a hard paddle stroke, or maybe even someone pushing someone else in, or a tackle...whatever, just remember it can't be too complicated, and we don't want to end up with a design that only people who play canoe polo might understand. Deadline for designs is next friday, week 8 (27/11/09). Please can you scan your designs in if they are hand drawn, there are scanners in the library if you don't have one at home. Also do not worry if it is a SIMPLE pen/pencil drawing as our mighty Webbo will be able to transfer this into a printable design using some computer program thing. Right thats the end of this incredibly long winded post but I hope you get the idea. To summarise: If your design wins, you get a hoody for free. Think simple block/line design. Deadline: friday week 8. Safe. Peace out. To Webbo, Please could you link us to the old designs if you can find them. Thanks.

Dr John's Fiendish Rules Quiz - with prize

Posted 15y 0mth ago by Some Old Git

Morning all.

Dr John has written a nice rules quiz for you all, located on the 'Canoe Polo/Polo Rules Book' page at the bottom of the left hand links.

If you print it off, do it and bring it in next Tuesday, we will mark it and you can win a t-shirt if you get the best score. The link appears next to a link to a copy of the rules book, it's an 'open book exam' as the exam people would say.

If you are playing at the tournament it would be really good if you could do this. Your captains might even require it!
