Polo rules book

I've put a copy of the polo rules, kindly scanned in by Dr John, in the Canoe Polo/Polo Rules Book section (bottom link on the list on the left hand side).

Not sure if I'm breaking the law by putting it up, so please don't distribute it. You'll only be able to see the link if you're logged in and you're a member of polo.

Dr John is writing a "fiendish rules quiz" complete with prizes. Not sure when it will be out.

Right then Einstein and I have just done an inventory of all the Canoe Club Kit and there is a fair bit unaccounted for.

If you have (or know the location of) any of the list below please let me know and return it TO ME. Please don't just leave it on the balcony without letting me know because most of it doesn't live there.

Here we go:

Paddles
1 x Black Originz Nevis Bluff paddles
1 x Red Lendal padlock splits
1 x Yellow Werner Rios

Helmets
1 x Blue Peak UK Predator
1 x Yellow Peak UK Predator

Spraydecks
2 x Black and Yellow Playboater Shock Decks

Misc Kit
4 x Orange Karrimor Survival Bags
1 x Red and Yellow Nookie 15m throw line
2 x Pink Palm 15m throw line
1 x Blue Camping Gaz Gas Canister
5 x Black 6 m Yak roof straps (with Buckle)
1 x Black Yak roof straps (without buckle)

Various Wetsuits and Fleeces but I assume these are waiting to be returned from Fresher's Trip. Please bring these back rinsed and dried this week so they are ready for Tyne Tour.

Please check through all your paddling for the above stuff.
Cheers,
PGL

Thursday Coaching sessions

Posted by: Einstein

Hi everyone

hope those of you that went had a wicked time at score.

As of next week (5th November) the thursday session will be solely for coaching. I'll post up the skill we'll be teaching on the website before, so check it out and come along if you want to learn some stuff. This should be a really good way to improve before we go on trips, and will hopefully make you a much better paddler

Please only come if you want to learn or can coach.

If you want to help coach at these sessions please talk to me or Matt Snowman, you don't have to be qualified, just keen and willing to listen and learn from the coaches.

Thanks

Einstein

Warwick Winter Tournament

Posted 14y 5mth ago by Some Old Git
Posted by: P Gizzle
The Legendary Warwick Winter Polo Tournament is fast approaching and we are starting to think about teams. So please sign up if you are available and want to be considered for a place.

Our tournament is Sunday 29th November from 09:30 to 18:00 in the pool.

We are entering 2 mens team and 1 ladies team and will be competing against teams from Nottingham, Bath, Birmingham, Bangor and Bristol. There is 16 mens spaces and 8 ladies so not all of you will get the chance to play this time around. But, fear not, there is a possibility of a Freshers tournament in London soon (we are awaiting confirmation) and another next term in Bath.

If you do not make it onto the team please do try to come and watch for a bit to see some high level polo and cheer us on.

Remember if you don't sign up you won't even be considered for a place.

Fireworks

Any chance somebody has a garden big enough to host the Canoe Club fireworks this year? Hopefully on 5th November (obviously!)

Preferably someone in Leam, and may be able to sweeten the deal for you.

Let me know as no venue mean no fireworks! We can't have that now can we!!

Rules course and training in the coming weeks

Posted 14y 5mth ago by Some Old Git
Posted by: Doc Brown
Hello there!

As a reminder: before the session this evening I will be running a course going over the rules of polo.

This will be from 1745 to 1845 in S 0.18 (Social Studies Building).

I'm going to try and make it as exciting as possible, with bits of cardboard, demonstrations and 'lashings' of sexual innuendo.

If you're keen to find out more before the course or for whatever reason can't make it check out the rules page:
http://www.warwickcanoe.co.uk/site/polorules/

Also! In the coming weeks I've got some plans for the training sessions. This week will be the last week of just games for a little while. Next week (5) we will have some training drills to practice shooting and defence. The week after (6) we will have one of the notorious Warwick Rage tournaments, I'll sort out a sign up for this, put you into hilariously named teams, then we'll spend the evening tearing each other to pieces/having pleasant competitive games of polo (delete as appropriate) as part of a mini league system. Winning team gets some sort of prize.

The history of the term 'Warwick Rage' is uncertain. You'll have to join in to find out what it's all about. Sign up appearing after next week's session.

Hopefully ee you tonight!

When: week 5 weekend (7th-8th October)
Who: anyone who has come along to a few pool sessions! This trip is suitable for freshers (even if you didn't come on the Fresher's Trip).
Cost: probably 30-35 pounds, but TBC
Why: Great Northern rivers, loads of clubs all on the same river and a brilliant Ceilidh Saturday evening. Get involved!

The sign-up will go up on the website on Tuesday morning between 7:00 and 7:30 am. (early I know, but no-ones stuck in lectures/at work at that time)

Hi everyone

Hope you all had a wicked curry and a class time at kelseys and evolve.

T he club did this last year and had the highest turn out of all clubs, and we looked good. If you want to see pictures look here http://www.warwickcanoe.co.uk/resources/images/photos/230/Right%20to%20Play%20-%20Canoe%20(2%20of%2078).jpg

anyway, if you can make it meet at the sports centre at 13.00 and hopefully someone will be there to tell you where to go. please to it, its for a great cause and is really good fun.

Hope to see you all tomorrow.

Next Tuesday before the evening session G will be running a course going over the rules of polo.

This will be from 1745 to 1845 in S 0.18 (Social Studies Building).

It's a great way to get to grips with some of the intricacies of the game and help you understand what is going on.
