It's back!!!!

The annual canoe fireworks has returned with bigger and better fireworks!!!!

This year they are will be held in Leamington (we do realise its two leam socials in a row) in Ali's back garden, and the cost will be a mere £5 on the door for this spectacular display of pyromania.  Bring along, housemates, friends even randomers and let's see if we can have even more people turn up than the (very successful!) curry social, for those who werent there, the restaurant ran out of chairs for us!

Due to the fact that i dont know where Ali lives, i'll post the address later this week.

For those on campus we will be meeting in the bar at 6:30 to leave 7.  If this is a problem with late lectures etc then just email pebble@warwickcanoe.co.uk so we know to wait for you.

who knows i may even make an appearence!

Polo Sessions Fridays

Posted 17y 5mth ago by Some Old Git
Posted by: Frodo

Next Friday's session (week 5) will be specifically for Ladies. We will be entering two Ladies teams into our tournament at the end of week 8; any Ladies hoping to be involved (inc freshers) please try to be there so Louise can begin to get an idea of potential teams.

On a more general note, obviously there are lectures running on friday mornings, and I don't want to be seen to be actively discouraging you from going to these (...honestly...!) BUT each 'group' will only have a friday session once every 3 or 4 weeks, as the sessions rotate. Thus even if you came to every apropriate session you would only be missing 2 or maybe 3 hours of lectures a term; a solid 50 minutes on the water in these specific sessions is an opportunity to improve and practice much more than is possible on a tuesday evening... the choice is therefore yours.

However with so few people having come today, we will be in danger of losing the slot if the same attendance levels continue, and back to only a busy tuesday night with unfortunately a considerable amount of time waiting around. Its in our hands guys, please lets not lose it!

Ladies: Can you please confirm below if you are coming/not coming next week (3rd Nov), so we can gauge attendance. If not enough interest is shown the session will be opened up to anyone meaning probably less time in a boat for each person.

See you on tuesday

Polo this Friday 10-11am

A reminder that the polo session this Friday 27th will be Beginners Training, with everyone most welcome!
Plan is to do a bit of paddling, dribbling, passing skills to start with, and then move onto some two games!
We can only fit it all in if we ensure that we're all stood ready in kit and get onto water the minute it becomes available. This in turn means that you should please try to turn up at 9.45am to help to get all the kit out, be wearing it, have a paddle in your hand and footrests of your boat adjusted by 10am!
Hope to see you all there!

Week 5 will be Men's A team - B team Training, with lots of games!

OK, the plan is to warm up all those people who swam at the weekend with a well earned curry (yes, I swam, but it was me trying to get out of a boat and avoiding the rat/duck shit that is common to most London canals!), it was a really good night last year and would be cool to see some old gits attending, if you guys can make it. The plan is:

On Campus: Meet at rootes Bar at 7 leave for Leamington at 7.30, there will be people there to guide those who have little idea of local geography!

Off Campus: Meet at the jug and jester for a precurry pint whilst waiting for the others at 8.00

Meal: ALi Babas next to Jug and jester

Most important fact: IT IS BRING YOUR OWN AND THERE IS AN OFF LICENCE NEXT DOOR

Post curry drinks: Being a thursday: on to evolve for a spot of dancing, Freshers Im sure there is room on floors in Lem if you cant be bothered to get a taxi!

I thin ks thats all

Warwick Autumn Tournament

Hello Everyone

The Warwick Autumn Tournament is coming up on Sunday 26th November.  One of the teams coming would like to stay over night on the saturday night as it is a long drive up.  I would just like to know how many people (especially those on campus) wouldn't mind if somebody slept on their floor.  If you could email me or let me know on tuesday that would be good.

Thanx

Outdoor Activities First Aid Course

Posted 17y 6mth ago by Some Old Git
Posted by: Frodo

Hello

There will be an Outdoor Activities First Aid Course running one weekend at the end of this term. It is a very thorough two-day course, specificaly aimed (unsurprisingly!) at the sorts of outdoor activities we, amongst other outdoor clubs, undertake.

If you are thinking of pursuing a career in outdoor activities, applying for a Camp America style placement next summer, or even just want a better-than-average first aid qualification for your CV then this is probably as good a deal as you will find : and for sports club members it is FREE.

It will be the same as the course which ran in the summer term; I know Ralph attended that one and found it extremely worthwhile. Again, the cost is FREE, but places are limited as interest is already high.

Please reply to the news item on the website www.warwickcanoe.co.uk if you are interested, so that a rough estimate of numbers can be given to Gemma Morris (Warwick Sports Development Organiser). The exact weekend has not yet been decided; this email is merely to obtain an indication of interest. Please note that quick replies are not guarantees of places; details are unknown and we do not yet know how many places either club will be allocated (if indeed there is enough confirmed interest to run the course).

Polo on Fridays 10-11am

From week 3 onwards there will be an extra polo session in the main campus pool on Fridays 10-11am!
Idea is to vary these sessions for team training, or fresher's training, which will always be announced. Often everyone will be welcome, because we do need to ensure a good turnout.
The first session on Friday 20th October will particularly be aimed at people going to ULU Tournament.
The next session on 27th October will be reserved for Fresher's training, with everyone willing to give a hand most welcome!
