Hey boys n girls
Just to remind everyone, old and new, whats going on this term...
All Mondays at 8.30pm in the Campus pool is Canoe as
usual - just turn up with swimming stuff, a tee shirt and a towel
(ideally) and we're sort out the rest. As always will be an hr of teaching if
you want it or just playin around if you don't. Then onto the bar/top b.
Wednesdays we will be running some basic beginner river skills on the leam -
keep an eye on the emails for details - anyone will be welcome either to help
teach or to be taught.
First social will be a BIG one. SCORE week 2 (this wednesday) for some fun n
games, more info to follow from our estemed social secs
Freshers trip weekend at end of week 4, will be a beginners trip to an easy
river in a yet to be disclosed mystery location somewhere in the country (ie i
havn't decided yet) so sign up'll be up for that in the next few weeks, but keep
the weekend free.
Tyne tour is end of week 6, which is a HUGE BCU event held on the tyne up
north, which is always a big partee and a good river, so keep that free too, and
we'll also be running a 'hardcore' trip wk 9, for those who think they can keep
up with the big boys (not me then...)
Right okay, i'll leave you to your lives now, see you monday in the pool!

Thanks to Matt's efforts, we now have a shiny new Canoe Polo section of the site, with an
Introduction to Canoe Polo and an
abridged version of the BCU rules, complete with diagrams and pictures.
While the introduction is aimed at players new to the sport, the rules page should be of interest to all members.
Dont' forget that if you have any questions about rules or the game, you can email Matt or ask in the forum.

(sorry its long but I can't help it)
Ladies and Gentlemen (and Medic),
My dear friend Frank informs me that the world famous Wurzels are performing near to my home town over the summer months. It is on this information I propose....
Wurzel Party at my house!
On Thursday the 21st July in the 2005th year of the lord, the bunch of haystack-headed, cider-soaked and dung-booted, not-quite-so-young Avonside lads known as the wurzels will be playing in the Fleece and Firkin in Bristol, a mere 8 miles from my home town.
(Seen here http://www.ents24.com/web/venue/1144/Bristol/The_Fleece.html You can get tickets for the event on this link as well!)
I invite anyone and everyone who wants to come down to stay in the birth place of the bard of avonmouth himself, Adge Cutler, founder of the Wurzels! This is of course my home town of Nailsea, also famous in days of yore for its glass.
The plan would be to gather at my house (62 Sunnymede road - BS48 2NG if you want to find it on a map - Closest station Nailsea & Backwell where I can pick you up) Grab some food, drink a fair bit of Cider (later in e-mail) then head in on the bus for a night of wurzel watching fun! People can then come back and crash at mine, I have plenty of floor space and also you can camp in the garden to give an extra bit of space!
If you don't know who the Wurzels are you should be shot, but you've probably heard them on a canoe trip. Heres a bit of a description for you if you don't:
The Wurzels
Formed in 1966 by Adge Cutler, the Bard of Avonmouth, they play good-time traditional Zummerzet Scrumpy 'n' Western music. The band has had considerable commercial success from their 1967 anthem Drink Up Thy Zider to the heights of the chart-topping Combine Harvester in 1976. Big in Nempnett Thrubwell, these guys are huge across the whole county!
Cider!
If anyone would like some traditional Thatchers cider (stuff I had at the BUSA's then I will be posting a list of what I can get in the forum so place your orders on there)
In summary:(all will be posted on the site anyway)
Thursday 21st June - Turn up whenever during the day
Drink Cider
Go watch the Wurzels
Stay at mine
Enough said!
If you want to come along Reply to my summarised message in the forum so I know how much space to clear!
Its open to anyone and everyone too!
Drink up thy Zider

Hello.
Jenna had a wicked idea, which was:
Meet in Varsity on Friday at lunchtime for a relaxed goodbye social.
So, hopefully see you all there, meeting at 12:30 in Varsity,
Graham

Okay four days and counting till our sports fed/st davids extravagana - this (hopefully) should be the last you here from me about it so if you could all take a minute to shift through it (i know it's obsencely long)and take it all in that would be awesome. (Hayden - READ IT - i will not be answering text messages from you on anything i have already told you here!!)
MEETING TIME AND PLACE:
WESTWOOD CANOE GARAGE at 9.30am Sunday morning for EXEC (both old and new) to get the van packed then EVERYONE ELSE LEAVING at 10am. If you are in club transport (ie on list attached as ps) i need you there (in whatever hungover state/out of whoevers bed) by 10am. If you decide otherwise you need to ring me NOW. Everyone in private transport can do as they will.
IF YOU ARE DRIVING YOURSELF we are staying in NEW GALE CAMPSITE as always. http://www.newgalecampingsite.co.uk/ which is postcode SA62 6xx should you want to multi map it for directions.
KIT - We are Camping so camping stuff (there are a couple of tent spaces on offer over the forum on the website if you don't have one to bring) and paddling so wetsuits and paddling gear if you have it, if not shoes you don't mind getting wet, a fleece jumper and swim stuff.
Also bring any campsite/beach entertainment - kites, frisbees, cricket, i dunno use some imagination! And some music for the bus so we have some quality choonage for the way down...
FOOD- is your own problem. There are over 40 of us so there is no way i am going to attempt a joint bbq on disposables! However we will be stopping at Haverford West Tescos on the way down if you want to buy bbq's in groups or anything else. There is a pub at the end of the campsite that does food and we will have the club stoves there - totally up to you.
MONEY!!!!! It is going to cost £4 a night camping - YOU MUST HAVE THAT WITH YOU IN CASH SO WE CAN PAY THERE INDUVIDUALLY. If you are in club transport it will cost £10 which need to be given to lousie ON THE TRIP or we will drop you at a cash pt and extract it for you (ideally tho can we have it in a cheque so we don't get mugged). This is HEAVILY subsidised by the club so you'd better be nice to louise!! Those of you driving (not for the club) will have to sort yourselves out - don't whinge we've got no union transport subsidy left so can't help you, and we are paying to move a van with all the kit in down for you!
Okay i think thats all, most important thing is to crawl out of that post sports fed ditch/cell/rootes bed and make it to westwood to compare hangovers at 10am.
Any drop outs, quieres or general trouble makers ring me on 07709490303
sorted.
see you Saturday!!!
Angie

Hello everybody.
Below are the Sports Fed Ball seating plans we've submitted and their names. I think you find your table on the day by either table name or the ticket number of the person who submitted that table. All the information you need is below. Please let me know if i have got anything wrong, eg veggyness, ticket number, name.
I hope these tables are ok with everyone. Sorry to those on a five person table, but they wouldn't let me have 3 9's and an 8 for example.

Great News people, another canoe social is on its way. Unfortunately though I will be all by myself, sniff sniff, no Graham (I'm going to learn to kayak for the weekend so I can stop lying about being 3*), but no doubt we will still have a party.
This Saturday we will be meeting up before school days for a few drinks and then onto the union. Although starting in Rootes bar at 8 we will then move onto a Rootes kitchen for some cocktail mixing (or whatever you fancy drinking if you find them too girly) and nostalgia for those who used to live there. If the weather is as nice as its been recently (please note that if reading this when it is raining, ignore it and imagine sunlight streaming through your window) then the piazza will also be an option.
Nicky and Graham
Ps School uniform is compulsory, more fancy dress, woohoo!

Hullo All,
Right Surf trips looking popular (we're at 35 people and counting!) If you're up for coming and havn't signed up yet can you do so asap, so i've got some idea on numbers. As this trip is really casual what i'm gonna do is ask EVERYONE who is planning on making an appearence to sign up online (think even old gits can do so now - any probs just email me). Don't care when you're appearing/leaving just stick your name on the list.
As practically everyone seems to be arriving late, leaving early and going via great Aunt Mable's enroute i'm gonna stick up a SECOND SIGN UP. If you want to come on the CLUB TRANSPORT (ie leave with us 10am Sun morning and return Tues early evening) can you make sure your name is on this. it'll be first come first served. Any one else can do as they please, but we WILL NOT be able to put your petrol through the union so you will have to deal with splitting that through yourselves. If you are not on the list you are not coming in the bus - end of story.
Okay think that is sorted.
Any worries/questions about anything ring me on 07709490303 or email president@warwickcanoe.co.uk.
See you all on Monday in the pool.
Angie

PS. TENTAGE we are CAMPING no suprises there. I have decided you are all grown up enough (!!?) enough now to work out this will require a tent. If you can't find/bribe someone to let you have a space let me know, but i am naively working on the assuption everyone can sort themselves out...
