Doggy Paddle

Posted 11y 11mth ago by Some Old Git
Posted by: Gregory

Hey Boys 'n' Girls,

Sunday Week 3, or Sunday 13th May for those who shun the Warwick Week system, sees the return of Doggy Paddle.

Doggy Paddle is a yearly event in which canoeist of all ages paddle the 18 miles from Leamington to Stratford to raise money for the guide dog's association.

It's a largely flatwater paddle, with a few weirs and one compulsory portages (around the trebuchet of DEATH!!!)

Beverage is often close to hand in an buoyancy aid pocket (Although I could not possible condone an alcoholic beverage being consumed on this day trip)

It's a relaxing, fun break from Exam/Revision stress and a great opportunity to take the duo or the open!

The Cost:

  • £10 in entry fees which goes straight to the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association.
  • Final transport costs will be worked out when we know numbers, but I will be very shocked if it works out at more than £5 each.

Sign up is on the website now, please sign up asap so we can finalize transport arrangements.

Hugs and Kisses

Rage League

Posted 12y 0mth ago by Some Old Git
Posted by: Einstein

Hey

After an excellent performance at BUCS this weekend it's time to start thinking about our yearly rage league. We sort 4 teams based on how you rate eachother as players so that the teams are as even as possible and people of all abilities can play, then each team plays one game a week as part of the league, with the other games in the session being just for fun. We will also be doing a fantasy polo league where you get a certain amount of money with which to buy players who get points for goals, saves, assists etc, but I'll give you more details on that when I know who's playing. If you want to play in the league please sign up on the website. It doesn't matter if you can't make some of the weeks as there will probably be 6 weeks worth of matches, but don't sign up if you're going to be away all term as there will be games for people not playing in the league. I'll be starting to sort out teams this weekend, so if you could sign up by Thursday evening please that would be great.#

Any questions email me at r.a.beckett@warwick.ac.uk

Give Blood!

Posted 12y 1mth ago by Some Old Git
Posted by: Gregory

Wednesday Week 4, Term 3 (elsewise known as Wednesday 16th May 2012), Canoe and Canoe Polo will descend upon Leamington and give away pints rather than receive them. I am (unfortunately) referring to pints of BLOOD, not Alcohol.

So if your able to Give Blood

1) Go to http://www.blood.co.uk/

2) Search CV32 4HN

3) Book into LEAMINGTON SPA ROYAL SPA CENTRE (on the 16th May) for 7pm +/- 30 minutes, 7:30pm is the latest they will accept appointments.

Simples!

Also, if you can't/don't want to give blood, don't worry - Please still come as emotional support for those who are and we will then probably go somewhere for food and (not necessarily Alcoholic) drinks.

Book your appointment NOW, don't rely on being able to show up on the night, the times I've been there before, they have been full in advance.

If you happen to be O- or B- please do this, the NHS have put out a special appeal for such donors.

White Water Safety and Rescue Course

Posted 12y 1mth ago by Some Old Git
Posted by: Gregory

Chris Eastabrook is running a white water safety and rescue course especially for us, which is a really flexible course, beneficial for maximising white water skills.  The course dates would be 9th-11th April.  Its £130.00 per person, but if you are not a finalist half of it can be claimed back from Warwick sport.  This is really good opportunity for some advanced training. Signup before this Friday to register interest.

Sign up can be found here. http://www.warwickcanoe.co.uk/site/trips/trip/231/

Laser Quest

So, only one more week of lectures before you're all free for a wonderful 5 weeks of sleeping, eating and avoiding revision (and tour of course). Before you go though, we've got one more social planned: Laser Quest.

So, the stuff you need to know: it'll be at Laser Quest Coventry (http://g.co/maps/kj85j), starting at 7pm and will cost just £10 for 4 games. If you're coming from campus then meet at the arts centre bus stop at quarter past 6 to get the bus (someone will also be able to direct you when you get off the bus in Coventry). Alternatively just meet us down there. Please sign up on the website if you're coming so we can let the place know numbers. Chances are we'll head to a pub afterwards, any suggestions of where you want to go are welcome.
